“What if…”

I got started in real estate back in 2004. After a devastating experience with the Network Marketing industry, I came to the conclusion that Network Marketing and all these other “How to make Money” sites were a bunch of scams. (Still had a lot of growing to do)

Anyway, I knew I still wanted to be my own boss and I just knew that there had to be something out there worthwhile to make that happen. At the time, I was in the military and had many obligations that took my time away from the hunt for this “business dream, however I wasn’t going to allow that to hold me back.

So one night, as I was just surfing around on the internet, I saw the following words, “Buy With No Credit Check, How To Make Money This Month in Real Estate!”

So I got curious… and I clicked on the link.

I was taken to a website that talked about a simple strategy of investing in real estate without a credit check and with just $1-$10 down. I read the entire page…every last word along with every testimonial!

I was hooked…

One testimonial really hit me and it was about how a guy made like $10K in 2 days after reading the course… I was pumped!

But that wasn’t what really had me hooked…

What really had me hooked was the concept of Real Estate? Who doesn’t need a home? How awesome would it be to help people and make money at the same time?

At that time, I declared that Real Estate was hands down the most secure investment period!
So I saved up some money… Cut back on stuff I didn’t need or want, took the leap of faith and bought the course.

The 1st Mistake…

Now before I continue, I’d like you to understand that buying this course in 2004 was not the mistake…In fact, this course literally changed my life and is the foundational course of all my real estate knowledge and experience. With that said, let’s continue.

So after a bought the course, I had to wait for it to arrive in the mail.

I felt like a little kid waiting on that package. I’d check every day… running up to the mail truck to see what he had. More bills… Whatever, we’ll be done with that soon!

Then one day it came!

I tore it open and just started reading. This was the first time that I really really enjoyed reading because it had my attention and interest the entire time. I read the course in 2 days straight, then listened to all the audio CDs (not as many as Carlton Sheets by the way. lol)

I was so excited and I was so pumped, ready to do a deal…

Then it happened…

As I started thinking about the type of lifestyle I could live, the places I could go, the things I could do, the things I  could buy, being my own boss and thinking about the type of positive impact I could make on my community…

Something hit me and it hit me hard!

• What if I screw this all up?
• What if I cause someone to lose their home?
• What if they call me a scammer?
• What if they think I’m too young?
• What if this is illegal?
• What if I start marketing and get too many leads and can’t help them all?
• What if I call a seller and they BANG the phone in my ear?
• What if they tell me NO?

WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF

Ladies and Gentlemen this went on for 2.5 years and as I was dealing with this, I would find myself buying course after course, joining discussion forums and reading thread after thread.  I was looking for an easier or faster way… Trying to find answers to questions when I already knew a lot of them, trying to find that reassurance that everything would be fine, trying to justify my fears…

2.5 Years I was the Victim of Paralysis of Analysis and didn’t do one single deal…didn’t make one single dime!

Ladies and Gentlemen that was my first mistake… Allowing myself to become a victim of Paralysis of Analysis, over analyzing everything I was learning and taking no action.

Ok That’s it for today, tomorrow I’ll tell you about the second mistake I made and this is going to blow you away, it’s something I’m kind of  ashamed of and to this day I feel it was so stupid of me. Every time I tell people this they’re like, “Are you serious?” Yes I am, and you’ll find out exactly what it’s all about tomorrow!
