Murder She Wrote…
Yesterday, we talked about my #2 Biggest Mistake, which I’m sure you can agree was a bonehead move! If you didn’t get to see it, you can check it out here: The Bonehead- Mistake #2
Today, we’re going to talk about my #3 Biggest Mistake, and this is something you’ll want to pay really close attention to because many investors go through this and don’t realize it. You may be doing the same thing, so again read carefully.
Alright, so once I finally got off my butt and started investing, I understood that marketing was the key to getting deals. So I’d post real estate ads here put up signs there and waited for leads to come. When they didn’t show up or when I didn’t get any calls, I’d get frustrated and try something different. So I’d go out and attend a marketing webinar or purchase some marketing books to help me get more leads.
I’d get so pumped as I’d learn about a new strategy, then when the time would come to implement that strategy….
The # 3 Biggest Mistake
As soon as I was ready to take action, I would start making excuses for why I didn’t think it would work or why tomorrow might be a better day, as I needed to go over it again. Even though I knew people were using theses strategies and were successful, something kept holding me back.
They say your first real estate deal is your hardest deal period. I think that is a very true statement. However, even after I completed my first real estate deal, something was holding me back.
Would you like to know what it was?
- Fear
- Procrastination
- Doubt
- Dream Stealers (Negative People)
- Distractions
These are just a few, but there are many more. They can be the #1 Killers of any business ambition or goal you set.
But let’s just focus on Fear and Procratination for a minute.
It’s what happens to people when they say, “I’ll get to it tomorrow” or “Not right now”. It’s also an excuse people use in place of things they feel they’re not good at or things they feel won’t work without even trying it out.
If you make the conclusion that something won’t work without even trying it, then you’re already setting yourself up for failure.
I was allowing my FEARS to shape my future!
The real problem gets down to your mentality. At that time my mentality was a lot weaker and even though I verbally told myself I could do it, my mind would say, “I Think I Can’t, I Think I Can’t” Basically holding me back and then using the Procrastination excuse as a way to step back and take a different approach.
There’s nothing wrong with reanalyzing what you do, it’s just that you can’t stay in that mode forever. You have to take action. The more you procrastinate, the more you’ll be hurting yourself in the long run because you’re adding more work on top of the work you’re already trying to do.
This mistake cost me a lot of time and my efforts could not have been better allocated then trying to play “Catch Up” with the rest of my competition. You don’t want to play catch up with your competition because they will always win, as long as you’re in the “I Think I Can’t” mentality.
I know I touched on a couple different areas in this mistake, but the overall mistake I was getting at were Fear and Procrastination. They go hand and hand. A weak and faithless mentality will lead to procrastination. Procrastination will lead to non productivity. Non productivity will lead to no money in the bank. No money in the bank leads to… We’ll I think you catch my drift!
Tomorrow we’ll talk about how I overcame all 3 Big Mistakes I’ve covered over the past couple of days and what you need to do if you’re making these mistakes as well. Be sure to stay tuned, and if you haven’t read Mistake #2, then click here or go check your inbox for the mail you received yesterday.
