Part 1: J. Lamar Ferren vs. The Hijacker

    hijacking

Hell to the NO! Oh No HE Didn’t! That’s how I’d like to begin this blog post. I just found out that I was hijacked. As soon as it happened, I was hurt. I was distraught. … I felt empty inside and completely violated…Ok Ok… So it wasn’t that bad. But I am a little annoyed about this.

Today I was googling one of my many web pages, because I forgot the name of the actual file and I needed it in order to create a special project for all my subscribers. That’s right I’m working on something just for you! (more on that later)

Anyway, as I was doing this, I stumbled onto one of my blog posts. It was actually a blog post I posted on The Bigger Pockets Blog back in November of 2009. It was the one where I showed you 2 ways to use video in Twitter. Anyway, as I looked a little closer, I noticed that the website my blog post was on, was not my website, nor was it the Bigger Pockets Blog.

    Strange….I didn’t authorize that??

I thought this was rather strange, since I only posted this on Bigger Pockets and I know I didn’t authorize my content to be on any other website. With that said, I know that Bigger Pockets, being one of the largest social networks for real estate professionals, has many connections and I figured this may be one of their partner websites or something.

However, just to be on the safe side, I decided to send a quick message to the owner of Bigger Pockets, Josh Dorkin. Josh replied quickly and basically informed me that they were not supposed to be reproducing our content.

This is the stolen content that was posted on the hijacker's website. As you can see I'm pictured as the author which proves this is my content. Also, the owner of Bigger Pockets, Josh Dorkin is shown in there. This is a direct copy of what you'd see on BiggerPockets.com/renewsblog... Not too smart huh hijaker!

Do we have legal protection regarding our internet content?

Absolutely! We are protected by internet copyright laws. Because I am the original creator and have only authorized Bigger Pockets to produce my content, I have rights to protect my work along with the rights set by Bigger Pockets.

Now we are going to ensure this gets removed by following a course of action. We’re starting off nicely by posting a Cease and Desist message to the guy’s twitter account. This is where he’ll most likely see it and if he’s smart then he will comply.

Why is this such a big deal?

I really take time to create valuable posts for all my visitors and subscribers. This is time that I could easily be spending with my family, working on real estate deals, or doing whatever I want to do. So when someone does something like this, it kind of pisses me off.

If you think it won’t happen to you, then think again because this is very common and it actually happened to a fellow blogger/wholesaler named Steph Davis. Steph actually called her hijacker out in an epic post that you absolutely must check out. Too funny and yet so sad for this poor hijacker: http://www.flipthiswholesaler.net/2010/02/and-the-douchebag-of-the-month-award-goes-to-drum-roll-please

Trust me when I say that you don’t want to piss Steph off. lol

I’m trying to remain calm right now… But as you can see this is only Part 1… Part 2 may not be so nice!

Anyway, I hope you can understand that I do all of this for you and I want us to get to a point, especially if that point is now, where we can work together on some deals or business ventures that make sense and of course make money for all involved! Talk to you later and I’ll keep you up to date on what we’re doing to take care of this hijacking son of a *****

    Oooh... I'm telling mommy!

    <relaxing…>

    Hijackers suck.

It’s so irritating to spend time creating content only to have some a-hole try and reap the rewards.

Hopefully they will take it down and stop ripping off people’s stuff.
